Suchmos｜apparently different styles from typical Japanese rock bands

Suchmos

Suchmos is a city pop band that has started rising from 2016. They have apparently different styles from typical Japanese rock bands, but are influenced by black music a lot including ACID JAZZ, HIP HOP.

Their representative song is “ STAY TUNE” isn’t it?  HONDA( a Japanese motor company) used this song as their CM song. It is so sophisticated that no one doubts if they have been told that it is western music when they listen to its sounds.

Although the music is influenced by western music, the members are all from Kanagawa, Japan.  As for the members, the overwhelming charisma Yonsu has can be said to be a  part of the attractiveness of this band.

Of course, there are a lot of recommendations other than “STAY TUNE”.  Some people describe them as a one-hit-wonder, but they will never say anything like that if they listen to other songs.

One of our recommendations is “ PINKVIBES”. This is the very classic comfortable city pop that each instrument matches exquisitely. This is definitely a masterpiece in which we can feel the sexy vibe from not only the vocal but also the guitar, and base.

The vocalist, Yonsu described “PINKVIBES” as a song that makes us feel like driving around a seaside town. There is a driving scene with a convertible car that reminds us of a comfortable sunny day in Spring in the music video actually, but it actually filmed it on a very cold day in Winter! This song is an unforgettable one for members in some senses. 

Suchmos brought a taste of western music to Japan.

I knew I’d never forget the first time I heard this song.

Maybe I’m exaggerating, but I think it’s definitely a song that will go down in Japanese music history.

By all accounts, the Japanese music scene became more interesting after this song.

“PINKVIBES”

I think TAIHEI’s piano is what makes Satimos sound so stylish. It’s not mellow or anything, the sound of normal bands sounds a bit harsh, but Sachimos is not sluggish, it’s smooth and silky with the piano. It’s easy to listen to.

I first heard it on the radio as I was driving to my graduation ceremony. I fell in love with it right away! At first I didn’t think it was a Japanese song.

It’s strange because even the view from the train and the rhythm of walking while listening to Suchmos songs seems like a special moment. It’s comforting.

I like the lyric, “As long as you can laugh at nothing, as long as you can walk with nothing, you’re good.”
