King Gnu
King Gnu is a four-piece rock band. They are popular for their highly addictive music, which is a balanced mix of black music beats and J-Pop.
They made their major-label debut in January 2019 and made an appearance on Music Station in February. They are the most exciting band of all time, both in name and in reality.
King Gnu calls his music style “Tokyo New Mixture Style”, and he aims to create music that is as exciting as the city of Tokyo, packed with a variety of sounds.
At the demo stage, vocalist Daiki Tsuneda creates the music, but the other three members also play freely while listening to the demo. Each of them has a strong performance technique and musical sense, which makes the music unique.
King Gnu is characterized by the wealth of talent of Tsuneda on vocals. In music, he has a talent that has been recognized by Genji Yonezu. He is also famous for playing, arranging, and promoting Yonezu Genji’s lovely screenplay of “Alice”.
Tsuneda entered Tokyo University of the Arts as a talented cello player. However, the fact that he dropped out of university after less than a year is another episode of genius.
Tsuneda not only writes lyrics for King Gnu, but he also created a group of creators called “PERIMETRON” that creates artwork and music videos. Tsuneda is a genius with a multifaceted talent that extends beyond the confines of the music industry.
If you’re listening to King Gnu, his major-label debut album “Sympa” is a must-listen. All of the songs are great, but if I had to pick a favorite, I would say “Slumberland” is the best.
Slumberland” means “Land of Sleep” and is a wake-up call to the receding Japan, which has lost its peace and is regressing. It’s a wry but not funny song about the state of affairs in Japan, such as “What’s in it for me is next to nothing”.
King Gnu is a genius who blows the world away with his fearlessness, and his performance skills have earned him a reputation as one of the best young musicians in the world.
