BIGMAMA｜band with a violin! And the vocal falsetto is beautiful!

BIGMAMA

BIGMAMA” is a four-piece band consisting of Masato Kanai (Vo, G), Hiroya Kakinuma (G, Vo), Hideto Yasui (B) and Mao Higashide (Violin). It’s unusual to have a member who plays the violin; the band was formed in 2002 in Hachioji, Tokyo, and has gone through a number of member changes, including the departure of Riyadh Ikitake (Dr) in May 2020.

If there’s one thing that sets BIGMAMA’s music apart, it’s the violin! The music is beautiful, with violin tones intertwined with the band sound of guitar, bass and drums.

For example, listen to “Himitsu( the secret)”. The song is not overly reliant on the violin’s unique sound, but it’s a perfectly balanced piece of music. It’s a song that shakes your heart with its sad tune and skillful modulation, and it’s not just a band sound.

Also, Kanai’s voice on vocals is soft and fits well with Bigmama’s composition. The falsetto before the chorus and chorus is so delicate and beautiful that it’s hard to believe it’s a man’s voice. The first time I heard his falsetto, I got goosebumps.

”Himitsu” is the lead song from 2011’s Himitsu to Lucy and was also included on his sixth album, Until You Button Up Your Blouse Again. It’s a song that has been highly rated by fans, so if you’re new to BigMama, you should definitely check it out.

Another popular song is “#DIV/0! This song is more of a rock song than “Himitsu”. I thought it would lose to the band’s sound, but it’s a pleasant song to listen to with the violin intertwined well. The smoothness of the vocals also stands out.

BIGMAMA is an ongoing and rapidly growing band, so much so that if you listen to their albums, which were produced at different times, you’ll find yourself thinking that they’re not the same band. I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ll do in the future and they’re definitely a band not to be missed!

It’s a good song.
The video is so lame.

This was the first time I came across this song at BIGMAMA, and when I found it on SHOW BY ROCK, I was like, “This is so good! So I was looking for Bigmama on YouTube.
I haven’t listened to it for about two years now, and then I looked for it on YouTube and found that there are quite a few new songs on there too, and I’m on the verge of regaining my BIGMAMA fever again!
