Hump Back
Hump Back is a three-piece band from Osaka, Japan. Momoko Hayashi (vocalist and guitarist), Pika (bassist and chorus player), and Misaki (drummer and chorus player) are the three girls who play rock music together in this band.
Hayashi’s biggest influence is Chat Monchy, a musician whose music has been a huge influence on her since the band’s inception, and in 2009, Hump Back was formed by her high school’s light music club as a copy band of Chat Monchy.
In 2012, they participated in “Senko Riot”, a competition open only to teenage artists. They’re a talented band that even made it to the Osaka competition!
After that, there was a series of member changes, which led to a hiatus in the band’s activities. After Hayashi’s solo career and other activities, Hump Back established their current structure in 2016.
In 2018, they released their first single, 「拝啓少年よ」Haikei Syounenn Yo(“Dear Boy,”) on a major label! The lyrics of 「拝啓少年よ」starts out as if to ask someone, “Don’t you have any more dreams? Are you afraid of tomorrow?”
The title of the song is “Dear Boy,” but isn’t this a cheering song dedicated to all men and women, young and old? Hump Back reminds us of the courage to take on new challenges when we have grown up and forgotten our dreams.
The last line of the lyrics, “The long way around is just fine”, could only be said by Hump Back, who took the long way around to release their first single. Hayashi’s core singing voice over a bright and crisp band sound will blow our minds.
After many hardships, their latest full-length album, “Ninngen na no sah” was released on July 17, 2019! Of course, “Dear Boy” is one of the 11 songs on the album.
Ten years after their formation, Hump Back have finally hit the stage, and we can’t take our eyes off the band’s “late blooming Cinderella story”!
